When selecting suitable candidates, in addition to skills OTTO is primarily interested in the person: What has been their life path? What are their hopes and visions for the future - and how do these fit with the company?
Basically, candidates with communication skills, who are sociable and good at negotiating, are attractive for the company. They should be able to work independently, show a high level of commitment and have the courage and motivation to try new approaches.
We also welcome support from our own employees in recruiting new people. In the ‘Staff Recruit Staff’ programme, colleagues recommend candidates from their own circle of acquaintances for advertised positions - and later receive a bonus.

This is also confirmed in collaboration with colleagues recruited through this programme: Not one of them decided against joining OTTO during the trial period."
It takes interesting job offers to inspire interesting candidates. The HR department therefore also uses social networks in its recruitment. Articles about current HR issues and job vacancies are tweeted via @otto_jobs. On the Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/ottogroupkarriere, the department also gives detailed insights into the company, posts videos and initiates viral campaigns. The two blogs OTTO-Azubiblog, written by Otto trainees and eStarter also provide authentic insights into everyday work at OTTO.
OTTO contacts interested applicants via live chat on the web, interviews them via webcam and also has a presence on business platforms such as Xing or LinkedIn, as well as a live presence at job fairs and online tradeshows.
